Don was born on December 21, 1936, in Cairo, West Virginia the youngest of 10 children born to the late Harley Monroe and Della Shields Sandy. He graduated from Cairo High School in 1954 and moved to Canton, Ohio to live with his sister, Maye Ayers, and work at the Hoover Factory. In 1959, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1965. After returning from the military Don worked with his father in the oil fields around Ritchie County, WV until going to work at Marbon (GE) in 1966 and retired in 1991.

Don Married Sandra Kay Chapman on May 25th, 1985, and welcomed her two daughters into the family. Together they united both families and watched the family expand to include 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Don was an active member of Union Valley Baptist Church, where he served his Lord and Savior in numerous positions, including Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School superintendent. He loved farming, hunting, and driving his tractor pulling a wagon full of laughing kids with his grandchildren yelling "faster Pappy". To know Don was to know the kind, selfless love of God. Aunt Sandy, all my cousins and loved ones,

Uncle Don was truly one of the great ones. Every memory I have of him is positive. His sense of humor, love of family and, most importantly, his love for Jesus serves as an example for us all. I look forward to the day when I can spend eternity with him in paradise.

Love you all,

Jim Sandy
