Donald Scheppel

Donald G. Scheppel, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:35 pm December 10, 2025 peacefully at his home. He was born November 29, 1948 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Clifford C. and Pearl M. (Gibbs) Scheppel. Donald married Angela (Tilley) Scheppel on December 21, 1984.
In addition to his wife Angela, Donald is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Scheppel-Harness of Waltonville, Illinois and Heather Green and her significant other, Jason Barbanell of Saint Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Jayton Harness, Tawneley Hall, and Easton Hall; brother, Charles Scheppel and wife, Patty of Mount Vernon and their daughter, Sarah Scheppel-Staley and family; brother-in-law, J.R. Tilley of Mount Vernon; several nieces and one great-nephew; and his loving pet, Darcey Rose.
Donald worked as a counter salesman for Lincoln Auto Supply for 36 years. He finished his career at Walgreens Distribution Center. In the early 1970s, Donald was a trained rescue scuba diver for the early years of the Jefferson County Volunteer Fire Department. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed fishing. He played for many years in the local billiards and bowling league. He was a beloved husband of 41 years, devoted father, treasured grandfather, dear brother, uncle, and friend to many. Donald will be remembered for his incredible love of family and willingness to help someone in need.
Per Donald's request, he will be cremated and no services will be held. Memorials may be made in Donald's honor to the Jefferson County, Illinois Animal Shelter or Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
