Donald Schettler 80, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Monday, December 24th at Dickinson Co. Hospital System after several medical challenges over the past several years. Don was born on Sept. 27, 1932 in Iron Mountain and was the son of the late Paul and Ethel (Peterson) Schettler. He has been a lifelong resident of the area. Don was a 1950 graduate of Kingsford High School. He enlisted in the National Guard and was Honorably Discharged (Sergeant). On August 13, 1955 Don married Carol Uren. He began his working career as a mechanic and retired after 36 years as Service Manager at a local car dealership. In 1986 Don became self employed and continued doing automotive maintenance and rebuilding antique cars. He was a member of the local antique car club and won many trophies across the midwest. He was an avid HAM radio operator and enjoyed electronics. Don also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don shared many of these passions with his family. Don especially loved spending time with and watching his children's and grandchildren's activities and sporting events. Don is survived by his wife, Carol; children: Robert (Sherry) Schettler of Ixonia (WI), Thomas (Teresa) Schettler of Iron Mountain and Sandy (Tim) Finch of Mission Viejo (CA); brother: David (Jean) Schettler of Waukesha (WI); sisters-in-law: Blanche and Violet Schettler of Iron Mountain; grandchildren: Stephen Schettler, Stephanie (Eric) Cumming; Taylor Jo and Trevor Schettler; Allison, Andrea and J.C. Finch. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James Donald Schettler (1960) and brothers, Raymond, Verner and Kenneth Schettler. Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 28th from 10:00-12:00 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Friday 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Pastor Wynne Kimbrough of Grace Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory supporting the Dickinson County Cancer Unit Loan Closet (DCCLC) and the Wisconsin Chapter of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc.
