Donald George Smith, age 75, peacefully passed away at his home on April 12, 2023. Don was born on May 4, 1947, to Clarence Smith and Martha (Stevens) Smith in Trenton, Missouri. He spent his last few days surrounded by all his family and loved ones. Don loved his wife Alice, who he married on June 23, 1979, and had two beautiful daughters.
Don attended grade school and junior high in Trenton, Missouri, until at 17 years of age, he received his GED and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country from 1965 to 1968. When returning home, he insisted on traveling. During his travels, he learned to do all different types of jobs, which made him quite a unique man. When Don moved to Springfield, he decided to be in the construction industry, where he framed houses, apartment buildings, and decks. He did this until he was ready to retire.
Don is survived by his wife of 43 years Alice Smith; daughter Amanda Cook and husband Scott; daughter Donna Rowden and husband Steven; son Donnie Pettit and wife Patty; grandson Caleb; five granddaughters Alexandria (Ally), Adrianna (Annie), Makala, Stephanie, and Miranda; five great-grandchildren; two brothers Robert and George; three sisters Darlene, Carol, and Pat; a host of nieces and nephews, along with other friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; father Clarence Smith, mother Martha Stuart and stepfather Herschel; brother Clarence Wayne Stevens; brother Frank Smith; sister Debbie Smith.
Don’s hobbies include camping fishing or just being outdoors he was a big fan of WWE. He was a huge collector, of bald eagles and the Budweiser Christmas beer steins. Don’s outgoing personality and his love for his family, will be forever missed.
A Funeral service will be held for Don at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Adams Funeral Home, Nixa. Burial with military honors will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 17, 2023, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
