Donald Vance Smith, lovingly known as Vance, age 69, passed away on December 18, 2025. He was born in Norwich, CT and had been a proud resident of Hampton since 1998.
Vance was a skilled cabinetmaker who found true joy in working with wood. His craftmanship reflected his patience, creativity and attention to detail. He took great pride in creating pieces that were both beautiful and lasting. Working with his hands was not just a profession for Vance it was a passion and a source of peace.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Leola Smith; and sisters, Debbie Baranowski and Tina Peyton. He is survived by his children Brandi Southerland and Jesse Smith. His siblings Tammy Durham and Claire Clark. Grandchildren Xavior Smith, Tommy Southerland, Zoey Southerland, Sabrina Southerland, and Storm King.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Bonnie and WC Carter who he lived with for taking such loving and devoted care of Vance until his last breath. Their kindness, compassion and support will never be forgotten. The family would also like to thank the staff at Riverside Hospice for their care in our time of need.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday, January10, 2026 at the home of Bonnie and WC Carter. Details will be shared with family and friends.
