Eunice G. Woods, 88, of
Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away on December 31, 2025, from natural causes. Born on September 5, 1937, in
Norfolk, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ghee.
Eunice graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1957 and continued her education at Norfolk State University, earning degrees in business management and education. She began her teaching career at Luray Elementary School, where she taught multiple grade levels and discovered her lifelong passion for shaping young minds. This was the beginning of a dedicated 30-year journey in education.
She later joined Chesapeake Public Schools, teaching first at Crestwood Junior High, where she met her late husband, William Bill Woods. Eunice eventually continued her career at Deep Creek Junior High, where she retired after years of inspiring students and colleagues alike. During her tenure, she sponsored the National Honor Society, earned Teacher of the Year, and even traveled abroad with her students on an educational tour of Europe. She was admired for her patience, creativity, and her gift for making learning joyful.
In September 1967, Eunice married Bill, and together they welcomed their daughter, Sheila, whom she cherished deeply. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Her quick wit, warmth, and wisdom were constant in the lives of those she loved.
Eunice joined Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Albert P. Brinson. She served as a member of the Womens Usher Ministry, the Social Justice Ministry, the Womens Ministry, and the September Birth Month Ministry.
After retiring, Eunice embraced life fully – traveling with friends and family, attending sporting events at her beloved Norfolk State University, and giving generously to those in need. She volunteered her time, resources, and even donated plasma regularly. She often reminded her daughter, Dont pray for a blessing; pray that you can be a blessing to others.
Eunice will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her quiet strength, and her unwavering belief in kindness and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Ghee; her sisters, Virgie Mae Ghee and Doris Mosley; and her brothers, Elliott Ghee and Lawrence Ghee. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Woods, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
