It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Joseph Stephens, a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on February 24, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on June 15, 1954, in Bishopville, South Carolina, Donald lived a life characterized by hard work and dedication, primarily in the construction field, where he spent most of his career.
Donald was a man who cherished the beauty of the outdoors. He took joy in tinkering and fixing things, embodying a spirit of resourcefulness that seemed to reflect his desire to make the world around him better. Above all, he had a heartfelt commitment to caring for others, always ready to lend a helping hand, which endeared him to many.
His love for family was immense and unwavering. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Brandy Stephens Davis of Dutton, VA, Camille Stephens Price of Bethune, Mandy Martin (Kevin) of Chesterfield, VA, and Desiree Emmett (Donny) of Chesterfield, VA. Donald took great pride in his role as a grandfather, leaving behind cherished memories with his grandchildren: Kristin, Nichole, McKenzie, Natalie, Andrew, Logan, Bethany, Joseph, Afton, Aubrey, Elliana, Addalynn, Addison, and Isabella. He also looks down upon a great grandchild who is expected to join the family soon.
In addition to his loving children and grandchildren, Donald is survived by his siblings: Jimmy Stephens (Gay) of Bethune, John Stephens of Florida, Dwight Stephens (Bobbie) of Ocala, FL, and Leroy Stephens (Joyce) of Bethune, along with his sister-in-law, Norma Stephens of Bethune, who are all left to cherish his memory alongside many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, John Benjamin and Mary Alice Stephens, as well as his brothers, Tommy Marvin Stephens and Shelton Stephens.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Saturday, February 28, from the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00-7:00pm at Norton Funeral Home.
As we remember Donald Joseph Stephens, we honor the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy filled with love, compassion, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Norton Funeral Home is honored to be of service to the Stephens family.
