The beloved Donnie Stevens, 65, left this world on March 13, 2025. He touched so many lives and was beloved by all who knew him. He was a man of strong character with a ferocious passion for life. He lit up every room and had a legendary sense of humor that he deployed on every occasion.
Donnie was born to Tom and Linda Stevens on March 27, 1959. A lifelong resident of Springfield who graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1977. He was an avid outdoorsman and athlete, a championship bass fisherman, and a fierce competitor on the golf course. His generosity, kindness and unwavering love for people left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Donnie started his career and excelled as a manager in the local grocery industry. He left in the mid 80's and opened his own contracting business. He was an extremely skilled carpenter, and he either built, remodeled, or fixed thousands of homes in the Springfield area.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Jeremy. He is survived by sisters, Terry Rarrick and Becky Stevens of Springfield; and brother, David (Janice) Stevens of Springfield. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, many friends and family, and lifelong friend Jimmie Brewer.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to David and Janice Stevens for their exceptional compassionate care of Donnie for the last 3 years.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., March 27, 2025, at Walnut Funeral Home, 2001 W. Walnut Lawn St., in Springfield.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2025, at The Foxhole Bar and Grill (corner of Clifton and Kearney) 2350 N. Clifton Ave., in Springfield.
Care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
