Donald Stivaletta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home - Dedham on Jan. 9, 2026.
Donald R. Stivaletta, 89, of Dedham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his home in Westwood, surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2026.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (MacNiven) Stivaletta; his children, Laurie Walsh and husband Daniel of Bedford, Lynn Batitte and husband Eric of Quincy, Lia Stivaletta of San Diego, and Shannon DeMoura and husband Cameron of North Attleboro; and three grandchildren, Candace (Walsh) Warren, Christopher Walsh, and Ozzy DeMoura. Friend and care taker Tony Norman. He is predeceased in death by his son, Donald Stivaletta Jr., and his first wife, Thelma (Potter) Stivaletta.

Two of his biggest passions in life were family and sports. His wife and children meant the world to him. When Donald found love the second time around, it was clearly a love meant to last. He found someone that not only matched his strength, but was able to give him a new chapter in his love story. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children to achieve success. His love for sports blossomed during his time at Cushing Academy, where he lettered in hockey, baseball and football. He continued his passion for sports, coaching many teams to victory and playing hockey well into his 70s.

Donald grew up in a large extended construction family, learning from an early age the act of hard work and dedication. Immersing himself in a life long career.

In the words of Frank Sinatra, Papa would say… "I did it my way".

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St, Dedham on Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 4-7pm. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 420 High St, Dedham at 10am (accessible parking in the rear of the church). Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St, Braintree.
