Donald VonRuden Obituary

Donald S. VonRuden, 78, lifelong resident of Owatonna died Dec. 5, 2012, at Homestead Hospice of Owatonna. Mass of Christian Burial is set for Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna with the Rev. Jason Kern presiding. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Medford. Friends may greet the family on Friday, Dec. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brick–Meger Funeral Home, 1603 Austin Rd, and one half hour before the funeral liturgy on Saturday. Donald was born on May 5, 1934, in Owatonna the son of Stuart and Irene (Kruckeberg) VonRuden. Don attended Owatonna High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1952. After high school Don served his country in the United States Army for two years serving in Korea. He was united in marriage to Delores Thayer May 21, 1960, at Christ the King in Medford. The couple made their home in Owatonna. Don worked at Mathews Implement in Owatonna for several years and later worked as a custodian for the Owatonna Public Schools retiring in 2001. His life interests include fishing, traveled to all of the state parks in Minnesota; he enjoyed the farmers market in Owatonna. Don sold his fresh vegetables and will be remembered for selling his homemade angel food cakes. He participated in 4-H as a young man and went on a 4-H exchange to Mississippi. On that trip Don made several lifelong friends that he kept in contact with for over 50 years. Survivors include his children James (Kay) VonRuden, Judy VonRuden, Jacqueline Selbrade, all of Owatonna. Six grandchildren Ashley, Jamie, Tyler, Jordan, Jessica, Jenna. Three Great-Grandchildren. Special friend Darlene Bridely. Two brothers Dean VonRuden and Fred (Avis) VonRuden all of Owatonna. Preceded in death by his wife Delores, parents.
