Donald Kent Walters, 75, of Hurst, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, surrounded by his family.

Donald was born on December 19, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, to George Stephen and Ella Wanda (Deaton) Walters Sr. He married Kinda Ruth Kolk on July 1, 1989, in Columbus, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Kinda Walters; daughters, Maranda Walters, Donella (Brian) Walters-Roland, and Breanna (Quinn) Groutage; grandchildren, Braelyn Rice, Blake Rice, Dylanie Walters, Charli Groutage, Elijah Groutage, Parker Crabtree, Liam Stout, Abel Cravens; extended family, Kody Henson and his children: Olivia, Faith, Toby; Devin (Alec) Franklin and their children: Colton, Aubrey, MaKinley, and Levi; Gina Groutage and her daughter: Hannah Groutage and her daughter, Ariyah Berry; and Brian Roland's children: Brian, Sean, Trinity, and Connor, plus Bev Roland, Brian's mother; and good friend, Frankie Martin.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Smith; brother, George Walters Jr.; and beloved dogs, Peppy, Dozer, and Skittles.

Donald was a forklift driver with Nascote Industries for over 15 years. Prior to that, he worked at Pepsi, Penn Industries, and Maytag.

Donald was a devoted Ohio State football fan, Donald enjoyed overnight catfishing, reading Louis L'Amour novels, and playing the slot machines alongside his wife, Kinda.

A celebration of his life, with reflections by his family will be held at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family and will be accepted by the funeral home.
