Don Whitaker, age 73, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Don was born in Chicago, IL on November 7, 1951. Growing up in Logan Square, Don showed an early interest in business. Through determination and an unyielding work ethic, he built a successful business specializing in steel parts, eventually moving to Barrington Hills. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication not only defined his career but also inspired those who knew him.
Outside of work, Don had a passion for adventure and the rhythm of life. He loved collecting sports cars, motorcycling with friends, driving country roads and along the Chicagoland Lakeshore roads. Don's humor and charisma made him a cherished friend to many. Music was also a constant in his life, and he spent countless joyful hours playing the drums along to classic rock music.
Don is survived by his son, Christopher (Jennifer) Whitaker; daughters, Lindsey Whitaker and Bethany (Brandon) Kretchmer; and grandchild, Michelle Kretchmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Gladys Whitaker; and his sister, Martha Weber.
A visitation for Don will be held from 10am until the time of service at 12pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington, IL.
