Donald Charles “Don” Wray, 79, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025. He was the son of the late John and Edith Wray.

Born on January 20, 1946, in Danville, Pennsylvania, Don built a life filled with faith, family, and music. After attending Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and The Reading Hospital School of Anesthesia, he devoted his career to serving as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, practicing in hospitals across several states. He was respected for his calm presence, steady hands, and quick thinking in the operating room.

Music was central to Don’s life. He loved playing the piano and leading worship at church, filling every room he entered with song. Don also enjoyed woodworking, tending his garden, and sharing his infectious laugh with those around him. He was known for his sharp wit and quick sarcasm. His greatest joy was his family, and he delighted in every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. Some of the best memories were time spent together at Smith Mountain Lake. To them, he was more than a father and grandfather — he was “PopPop,” a storyteller and source of unwavering love.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Doug) Cline and Janelle (Jason) Basham; grandchildren, Marla (Ryan) McSwain, Carson Basham, Rosemary Cline, Emma Basham, and Lillie Cline; and by Katherine Hartzler and her son, Josiah, who held a special place in his heart.

In keeping with Don’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Instead, his family will honor his memory in ways that reflect the joy and love he brought into their lives. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Reading Hospital Foundation in his memory.
