Donna Crockett Obituary

Visit the Diehl-Whittaker Funeral | Cremation Services website to view the full obituary.
Donna Cleo Roxanna Crockett, affectionately known as "Roxanne", was born July 2, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald Gene and Barbara Jean Dameron. She is the third eldest of eight children, and was raised along with six of her siblings in Steubenville, Ohio for most of her childhood.

She will be remembered for her joyous spirit, devotion to her faith, and laughter. For many, she was only a phone call away when they needed someone to talk to, and a person who filled in many roles, including wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother, and best friend.

Roxanne attended Steubenville "Big Red" High School, where she was on the cheerleading squad and graduated in the upper third of her class in 1973. She attended Nursing School at Jefferson Country Technical Institute, where she received her LPN. Afterwards, she began her nursing career at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. During this time she was introduced to her husband, Philip, and together they married and began their family in 1975.

A devoted wife and mother, Roxanne homeschooled all eight of her children, choosing the role of stay-at-home mom and educator to ensure her family remained devout in their faith and learned the Word of God. As a result of her dedication to teaching, several of her children went on to study at Bible College, practice ministry, and even travel abroad on missions trips, but all of them remain steadfast and grounded in the faith instilled in them by their parents. She was known throughout the neighborhood for offering a safe space to any of the kids who needed it - opening her home (and fridge) for all.

Roxanne spent her years as an "empty nester" caring for others at home, work, and in church. She worked at Bright Horizons for more than a decade, caring for and nurturing Chase employees' infants and toddlers; and when not at work, she was teaching the Word to children during Sunday School. She received an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbus State Community College in 2005, a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashford University in 2020. She was also a proud matriculate of Harvard University's Divination School, from which she earned a certificate in Religion and Public Life. She was also a member of Vineyard Columbus Church, often volunteering in the Sunday School room to help teach and care for members' children.
Most recently, Roxanne was studying at Dallas Theological Seminary. She was a proud member of Greater 12th Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed participating in activities such as Super Saturdays and Trunk or Treat. She seldom missed a chance to celebrate the milestones and achievements of her friends and family.

A lover of nature, Roxanne enjoyed participating in 5K run/walks, hiking at Columbus Metropolitan Parks, and visiting the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, of which she was a member. She was a beloved grandmother to all of her eighteen grandchildren, making sure to travel and attend births, birthdays, graduations, and other big moments in their lives, no matter where they resided.

Roxanne went home to the Lord on March 9th, 2026. She is preceded in death by her daughters: Amanda and Ashley Crockett; father, Donald Gene Dameron Sr., brothers: Eric Hawkins, Donald Jr., and Brian Dameron; and her beloved pets Jackson and Bailey. She is survived by and leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Phillip Crockett Sr.; Phill (Sonia) Crockett Jr., Amber (Kalum) Cavazos, Autumn (Carlos) Betancourt, Micah (Brittany) Crockett, Abigail Crockett, Allison Crockett, and Josiah (Adriana) Crockett; and eighteen grandchildren; her mother, Barbara Jean Washington; Marva (John) Barbour, Paula "PK" (Lionel) Dameron-Belcher, Helena Dameron, and Randall (Aileen) Dameron, sisters:, and many cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 10:00 -11:00 am with a Funeral Service immediately following at Faith Ministries Church, 2747 Agler Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219. Burial will process to Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
