Donna was born on a farm in North Hero Township to Roy and Ruth Harnack. Her parents had a plan that when Ruth hung the white dish towel on the clothes line, it was time for Roy to come in from the field. The baby was coming! Donna was 4th out of 8 children.
Donna went to school and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1953. She worked as a secretary/nursing assistant for Dr. Ferguson in Walnut Grove. She later went on to study nursing at Miller Hospital in St Paul. She worked there as an LPN and met Bob Frank through one of her classmates and were married at Sharon Lutheran Church near Lamberton, MN on November 24, 1962. They lived in Olivia, MN for a short time and settled in Starbuck where Bob taught at school and she worked at the Minnewaska District Hospital for more than 35 years. They raised 3 children in a loving and close-knit family.
Donna enjoyed traveling with Bob to Hawaii, wintering in Arizona and Texas. She loved spending time with her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, enjoyed playing cards with friends, sewing, going to concerts and plays, gardening, snuggling with her dog Sophie and reading- especially on her deck when the weather was warm.
Donna passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was 88 years old.
Donna is survived by her children: Thomas (Sarah) Frank of Rochester, Debbie (Bradley) MacRunnel of Nowthen, and Angela (Chad) Andreas of Glenwood; six grandchildren: Shaun MacRunnel, Aaron MacRunnel, Talon Frank, Sydney Frank, Brittney Haukom, and MacKinzie Andreas; nine great grandchildren: Jackson MacRunnel, Theodore MacRunnel, William MacRunnel, Charles MacRunnel, Amelia MacRunnel, Audrey MacRunnel, Paul MacRunnel, Kathryn MacRunnel, and Khoen Spry; brothers: William (Lucy) Harnack, LeRoy (Nancy) Harnack; sisters: Janet (Ardell) Anderson, Eilene (Don) Stanek; and many nieces and nephews.
