Donna Ruth Gibbs Godfrey passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones Saturday December 28, 2024.
Born in Rock Springs, Wyoming to William R. Gibbs and Darhl L. Draney on February 18, 1933. Donna grew up in Reliance, Wyoming where she was the oldest of five siblings
She married Merrill A. Godfrey on June 6, 1956. Merrill and Donna had four children together and one exchange student that she considered one of her own. Prior to meeting Merrill, Donna had a brief career as a schoolteacher. Merrill and Donna later divorced.
In 1990 Donna started her grand adventure opening Donna’s Dolls. Donna taught doll making and repair at her shop. Donna met lifelong friends and created thousands of beautiful dolls throughout her career.
Donna was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed many callings throughout her life.
Donna was involved in many clubs including Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Red Hat Society, and many dinner and service organizations. Some hobbies she enjoyed were quilting, painting, photo tinting, tennis, ceramics, needlepoint, skiing, bear making, reading, crosswords, puzzles, cooking, and road trips. Her favorite pastime was enjoying time with her family, especially on Christmas Eve.
Donna is survived by her children, Rob (Karen) Godfrey, Lisa (Ken) Beed, Chris (Natalie) Godfrey, and Danny (Tamara) Oswald; grandchildren, Brittany Newton, Brooke Nelson, and Robert Morgan; great-grandchildren, Parker, Sarah, JJ, Chevelle and Hazel; and her siblings, Richard Gibbs, Laurel Merhish, Wilma Hinesley. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Rae Godfrey; her parents, and her sister, Pat.
Per Donna’s request, a private memorial will be held for her family. Donna will be buried in the Ogden Cemetery next to her beloved son, Michael.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Enhabit Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
