Donna Kay Maddy, 75, of Nimitz went home to be with the Lord Wednesday January 3, 2024, at Main Street Care following a long illness.
Born May 21, 1948, at Nimitz, she was a daughter of the late Carl Abshire and Melba Maxine Lilly Vest.
Donna worked in the office of Dr. Stanley Day for over 20 years. She taught piano to many of the children in Nimitz and Jumping Branch, taught children’s church for many years at Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church and sang in the Nimitz Trio. Whether riding horses with her parents as a young girl or driving around in her favorite red thunderbird, she was always on the go and never met a stranger. A true southern belle with a knack for design, her dining room table was always perfectly set for every occasion, whether it be family dinners or tea parties with her grandkids. No one ever questioned that she kept life at the Maddy household in order. Donna embraced traditions old and new, and her molasses cookies will forever be a family favorite.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Dianna Vest Whittaker.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, Ashby Maddy; daughter, Tia Maddy Lilly (husband Bobby and daughter Madison) of Narrows, VA; son, Aaron Maddy (wife Dolly, daughter Emily, and son Jon) of Athens; brother, Howard Vest (wife Barbara) of Beckley and many beloved nieces and nephews. She also dearly loved her wonderful caregivers at Main Street Care of Hinton, and she stole their hearts in return.
A private family service was held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2023 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors with Pastors Bill Fox and Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial followed in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz.
Stacy Jones, Nathan Hedrick, Sam Massie, Steve Massie, GW Whittaker, and Joda Meisel served as pallbearers.
