Donna R. Matthews

Donna Matthews - a friend to many, a breast cancer survivor since 2017 and a music enthusiast - passed away August 31 in her home and surrounded by her favorite things, including her music and butterflies. She was 54 years old.
Music was the heartbeat of Donna. Her preferred musical styles were wide, but started with the songs of Janet and Michael Jackson. She attended several concerts, including Janet Jackson, Stomp, Morris Day and the Time, and Maxwell R & B. Her musical tastes brought her to many Kingdom Bound shows, where she would spend the week going to concerts.
Donna enjoyed live theatrical events, and attended many performances at the Geva and the Rochester Auditorium Theatres, especially Christmas plays. Her vacations included time at Heritage Hollow, Niagara Falls, and two trips to Disney World. A Lady's Retreat at Canandaigua Inn on the Lake was something that Donna always looked forward to.
Donna lived at her home on Gates-Greece Townline Road and attended the Heritage Christian Services Nine Mile Point day habilitation program. She enjoyed volunteering at Lollypop Farm, and always treasured trips to the Seneca Park Zoo, Springdale Farm and Sonnenberg Gardens.
As a proud breast cancer survivor, Donna participated in Rochester's annual Breast Cancer Walk. Going for walks outside was a way for Donna to relax.
Donna was a graduate of Mary Cariola Center. She enjoyed her childhood at the Mary Cariola home on Kreag Road. Donna is survived by many friends, including the Gates-Greece and Nine Mile Point families from Heritage Christian Services.
All are invited to Donna's memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7 at The Father's House church, 715 Paul Road, Rochester, NY 14624. The burial at Riverside Cemetery will follow the memorial service.
