Donna Morey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory on Feb. 2, 2026.
Donna Morey, a beloved teacher, coach, Special Olympics coach and faithful Christian passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 69. Her life was a testament to service, compassion and unwavering belief in the potential of every person she encountered.

For many years, Donna dedicated herself to education, viewing teaching not simply as a profession, but as a calling. She believed deeply in her students, often seeing strengths they did not yet see in themselves. Her classroom was a place of encouragement, structure and genuine care, and she left a lasting impact on generations of learners. She later carried the same passion into her role as Executive Director of the Arkansas Retired Teacher Association.

As a coach Donna was known for her leadership, patience and heart. She understood that athletics were about more than competition – they were about building confidence, resilience and character. This belief was demonstrated most brightly in her work as a Special Olympics coach. She poured her heart into her athletes, celebrating every achievement and advocating fiercely for their dignity and joy.

Above all, Donna was a woman of faith, actively involved in her church and service as a Stephen Minister. She lived her beliefs daily through acts of kindness, humility and service. Her faith guided her work, her relationships, and her response to life's challenges.

Donna is survived by her mother, Dorthy Morey, her brother Michael Morey, sister-in-law Charlotte Morey, nephew Scott Morey and great nieces and great nephew. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the confidence she built and the love she shared so freely.

A family-hosted celebration of life will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on February 5th, at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donation be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Special Olympics Arkansas or Arkansas Retired Teacher Association, in her lifelong commitment to serving others.

I knew Donna when she was president of the Arkansas Education Association. As many of you said she was a very kind and accepting human being of everyone. When she would speak, she would always think about how an issue would affect the organization as a whole. Yes, she had her own sense of humor she would include in her statements that helped make people listen. She was a wonderful lady and always share things about Special Olympics. She will be missed

I had the pleasure of meeting Donna on the ARTA tour bus trip to Savannah in September of 2024. Donna kept all the bus passengers on schedule and organized. She was always helpful, kind and added her special kind of humor on our trip. May she rest well in God's presence. Condolences to her family and friends.

Donna was highly respected and loved by the Retired Teachers. She did so much for us; she was passionate about her job and when she entered a meeting, we knew she had good news to share with us as retirees. We miss her already. My prayers are with her family. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

Donna was such a fantastic leader for the members of Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She was an advocate for all of the retired teachers, the current teachers, and all of the students of the state of Arkansas. My heart is broken. I will miss her smile and her encouragement.

My deepest condolences on the passing of Donna. I had the privilege of working closely with her at the Arkansas Education Association and saw firsthand her dedication and leadership through the implementation of TESS and the creation of the Ethics Board. Donna gave so generously of her time-volunteering in the community, schools, church, and with AARP-and her philanthropic work with Special Olympics spoke volumes about her compassion and commitment to others. She leaves behind a legacy of service that will not be forgotten. My thoughts are with her family and all who were fortunate to know her.

To This Family: May your memories bring you comfort, as you walk this difficult path. May the joy your loved one brought you sustain you like no memory hath. May you feel her presence surround you, and hold you up through the years. May a smile find you and help to dry your tears,

Donna Morey was always positive when I was around her. We worked together at JA Fair, and she truly loved those kids. She made all of their lives better through movement and motivation. I remember fondly her singing, "When the moon hits your eye like big pizza pie, that´s a MOREY!!!"

Donna was very special to so many people. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to know her, work with her, coach with her, teach with her, but most importantly to count her as my good friend. Everyone who knew her was touched in a positive way and she will be greatly missed by so many. I will miss you my dear friend and I will see you again some day.

Donna served a Godly life. I was privileged to be a recipient of her love for education. She was a mentor to me during my work as a graduate student. I learned so much. Again several years later I was fortunate enough to work with her as a peer. Again learning much. She became a true friend during this time and remained so until her passing. Donna will be greatly missed.
