Donna Lee Neal, 86, of Topeka, Kansas, passed peacefully on September 19th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a testament to resilience and joy, a spirit that began its journey in Russell, Kansas, on January 12th, 1939. Born a fighter, she weighed a whopping 2½ pounds at birth to her parents, Louis and Dolores (Thayer) Stafford, and from the onset, she exhibited a determined, yet nurturing, spirit that would guide her throughout her life.

As the eldest of nine siblings, Donna embraced her role with grace and fortitude. Her professional endeavors began with one of her first jobs as a waitress to her true calling in the insurance industry, where she made significant contributions while working for Blue Cross Blue Shield and ERC Insurance Company.

Fate intervened when she responded to a newspaper ad for a blind date that would forever change her life. It was during that time where she met her best friend and the love of her life, Bryan Lee Neal. Their marriage on January 14th, 1984, at Topeka Baptist Church marked the beginning of a beautiful union that blended their families and flourished for over 40 years. Together, they created a tapestry of cherished memories, with joyous vacations in Palm Desert, California.

Donna had a remarkable gift for connecting with others; she was a friend to many, knowing people on a first-name basis—including the clerks at Dillard’s, who were well aware of her love for clothing and fashion. Every conversation she shared radiated warmth and made those around her feel valued. A lover of creativity and style, she enjoyed attending open houses to gather inspiration for decorating her home, a talent Bryan undoubtedly appreciated. Donna also loved going out to eat and eagerly explored new dining experiences.

Perhaps one of her greatest joys though, was taking care of children. Donna was blessed with six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren whom she loved spending time with, despite being of similar stature to many of them!

Donna is survived by her loving husband, Bryan Neal, daughter, Cinde Smith, step-son, Gary (Sherri) Neal, and sisters, Judy Hurla, Jolene (Jim) Burrow, Diane (Larry) Modrcin, and Jackie Cooper. As well as 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Greg Wege, brothers, Bill Stafford and Joe Collins and sisters, Janice Pearson and Carol Burghart.

A memorial service to honor Donna’s life will take place on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 at 11:00AM at Mount Hope Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th street, Topeka, Kansas 66604 with pastor Kyle Scheideman officiating.

As we honor the life of Donna Lee Neal, let us remember her generosity of spirit, her vibrant laughter, and the profound love she shared with her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and joy, forever etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
