Donna Dee (Potter) Nelson, 94, Lincoln, died Wednesday Jan. 14, 2026. Born, St. Edward Dec. 27, 1931. Supporting wife of husband Sonny on farms in Newman Grove area for 30 years, college-educated working professional in Lincoln for 21 years. Employed U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), 14 years, Managing Officer for Nebraska State College System, 21 years. Member First Lutheran Church, previously Zion Lutheran Church, Newman Grove, including Choir Director, Altar Guild Chair, and District Chairperson for Lutheran Church Women. Proud holder of multiple college degrees capped by PhD from UNL at the age of 58.
Survivors: sons and daughter-in-law, Michael G.(Brenda Bowen), Gladstone, MO.; Terry and Kathy, Shawnee, KS; Joel D., Lincoln; grandchildren Jesse(Shannon) Nelson of Ankeny, IA, Sarah (Aaron) Wilson of Grimes, IA, Joshua (Staci) Nelson of Shawnee, KS, Luke (Brooke) Nelson of West Des Moines, IA, Jenna (Wade) Hilligoss of Lincoln, and Jared (Briley) Nelson of Hilo, HI; 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; nieces; nephews; cousins, many friends, and numerous business associates. Preceded in death by parents, Francis and Neva, husband George (Sonny) Nelson, brother Harold Potter, and grandson Grant Nelson.
Services: Private family Celebration of Life will be conducted in the near future. No viewing. No visitation. Cremation. In memory of Donna, donations may be forwarded to the following organizations in Lincoln: Fresh Start/The Daisy Thrift Shop, Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, and First Lutheran – Altar Guild.
