Donna A. Remter

Donna Remter, age 87, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, in the comfort of her home. She was born on March 12, 1936, in Menasha, Wisconsin to Donald and Anna (Birling) Mericle. Donna was united in marriage to Gordon Remter on January 29, 1955, and has been united with him again since his passing in 2006.
Donna served the City of Appleton as a crossing guard for 24 ½ years. Before that, she could be found bartending at Remter's Bar with her husband and in-laws. She enjoyed crafting, ceramics, brunch with the "Coffee Clutchers", scrabble and other word games, and fish fry Fridays. A skilled yarn art creator and painter, Donna's masterpieces live on.
Having lived a life surrounded by love, Donna will be missed by many including her five children, Pam (Don) Leidig, Steven Remter, Cheri Castellion, Denice Remter, and Dawn Conner, her sister: Mary Vande Burgt, her 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She had a special bond with her live-in grand pups: Chop and Petey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Edna Derkes, Beverly Klinker, and Darlene Senner, and brother: Gilbert Mericle. She is united with many other relatives and friends in her passing.
Memorial services will take place on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton at 6 pm. Family will greet friends and relatives for visitation from 4 pm until time of service.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at ThedaCare Hospital in Appleton, Oakridge Gardens, and Compassus Hospice for the comfort and care they provided.
