Donna L. Rooney (Mimi), 84 passed on November 25, 2025 after an acute illness. Family along with nursing and hospice staff at Mercy, were at her side. She was the devoted wife of Dennis J. Rooney for 62 years, a beloved mother, grandmother, friend and caregiver.
Born on November 29,1940 in Amsterdam, Ohio, she spent most of her life in Canton. She graduated from Timken High School in 1958 and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 as an RN. She worked her entire career at Mercy Hospital/Medical Center. Her professional highlights include being a member of the nursing staff in the original Cardiac Care Unit when the tower opened. She assisted with the first Swan Ganz catheter placement in that unit. She received her BS in nursing from Walsh University in 1983. She moved to Radiology in 1982 as the first RN in the special procedures division where she innovated and served until she retired in 2003. She was a volunteer for the American Heart Association and a member and officer in the Ohio Radiologic Nursing Association.
After retiring, she enjoyed her family and friends, cherished being the best Mimi to Hanna. She enjoyed travel and spending time with Goofy at their second home at Geneva on the Lake, where Denny and Donna were legendary "every weekenders" for decades.
Donna is survived by her husband Dennis (Goofy) Rooney, children Dina Rooney, Denise Wooden and Craig Rooney (Lori and Olivia Hutchison), Granddaughter Hanna (Tim) Gearhart and nieces and nephew Loni Holt, Jodi Lynn and Gary Tumbaga. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Nina (Howard) Hamilton, her sister Linda Shannon and brother-in-law Oseas Tumbaga.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Stewart's Caring Place: Aunt Susie's Cancer Wellness Center and Refuge of Hope. No calling hours or public service will be held. A celebration of life will follow the holidays.
