Donna Eve Lynne Sponton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at home at the age of 71 years. She was born in Noranda, Quebec and moved west to Vancouver with her parents, Frank and Eve Stedman attending Tecumseh School in 1952. The family moved to Yellowknife NWT in 1956 where she attended John Franklin School while her parents worked at Rayrock and Discovery Mines.

Lynne married Derek Sponton September 1961 and continued to live at Discovery as a stay at home Mom raising two boys. In 1969 they moved to Ireland where she continued to raise her two boys. While in Ireland, she enjoyed equestrian sports and became excellent at riding and hunting. In 1978 the family moved back to Uranium City, Saskatchewan and Lynne became postmistress of Uranium City Post Office. In 1990 as her boys had now left home, she moved with her husband to Ethiopia where they survived the 1991 revolution when Mengistu was removed from power. While in Ethiopia, she fully integrated into the local community helping local people through difficult times. In 1992 she moved to Tunisia with her husband until 1996 when she returned to Creston, BC. While in Tunisia, she survived cancer of her throat. In 1998 Lynne and her husband moved to Chilliwack and retired.

While in Honduras in 1998 for 6 months, she helped a missionary group when Hurricane Mitch caused so much destruction. Since then she spent six months each year in Honduras and enjoyed her Bible Study group of which some were from the days of Hurricane Mitch. Lynne finally lost her courageous battle with cancer May 12, 2015.

Derek, Sted and Shawn,
I am so very sorry to hear of Lynne's passing. She was such a courageous lady in her battle with her illness. She always had that big smile and loved the times the three of us would get together and have our "chai lattes!" I feel very blessed to have called her my friend and wish we could have seen more of each other.
My prayers are with you, Derek, Sted and Shawn and their families.

Dear Derek, Sted and Shawn and families, We are deeply saddened to hear of Lynne's passing and know she will be forever missed. Lynne was a force to reckon with and her love of life, family and friends was evident. There is no loss that measures up to losing someone as important as your mom, but knowing Lynne she wouldn't want us to sit around grieving, but rather celebrating the wonderful life she led. I'm sure she had few regrets in living the full and adventurous life she did.

Her lasting legacy is the wonderful children she raised and how much love and pride she had for you all. She will live on in our hearts and memories, and will never be forgotten.

In love and sympathy,
Cathy, Denis and Gina

Derek, Sted, and Shawn,
What I knew about Lynne...Lynne was a beautiful lady inside and out. She had a gentle nature, and a beautiful smile that put you at ease. She was thoughtful in so many ways. She sent Christmas cards to my family, and fur faces, no matter how far away she was. She was a lover of animals, all kinds. It didn't matter how awful she was feeling, if she heard I was unwell she has Derek coming over with vitamin drinks and get well cards. She always ended her text messages with, love Lynne.
One of the last messages Lynne sent me she thanked me for being such a thoughtful friend. I read that now and think how blessed I was to have known her.
Love always,
and Bam snuggles.

Derek, Sted, and Shawn -- Tina and I extend to you our most heartfelt sympathy, and we truly share in your sorrow. I first met Shawn in 1983, and these many years of friendship make your loss feel like it is my own. I know how tight-knit your family has always been -- a true example of devotion and dedication that is an inspiration to us all -- so we can only imagine how painful your mother's departure has been for you. If it is any comfort, I hope you realize that the depth of grief only speaks to the great love you shared as a family over your mother's lifetime. Grief is a testimony to the legacy of love that she gave you. In these dark hours, may you find comfort not only in each other, but in the hope of Christ and the promise of redemption, when death will finally be forever destroyed. Our hearts are with you in solidarity and grief at this terrible time.

Hello, Derek, Sted and Shawn,
I never knew any of you. Lynne was my best friend for a few short, sweet years, when my mother and Lynne's mother become close friends and spent as much time together walking as they could. They used to go off singing "I love to go a wandering" and whenever I hear that song I think of the two of them.

But Eve died way too earlier, Lynne and her dad moved up north, and Lynne married early. The friendship melted away and the only contact I had occasionally was through my mother and occasionally through my brother Terry, who had some contact with you both perhaps through mining or Thiessen Team. I never forgot Lynne and I cherished the times we had as young teenagers

They used to go off singing "I love to go a wandering" and whenever I hear that song I think of the two of them.

The friendship melted away and the only contact I had occasionally was through my mother and occasionally through my brother Terry, who had some contact with you both perhaps through mining or Thiessen Team. I never forgot Lynne and I cherished the times we had as young teenagers short but sweet. I recall once having my mother visit here and she wanted to contact Lynne through email. It was new to her and she wanted to communicate. I believe at that time you were living somewhere in South America? Lynne replied to mother's message and mom was delighted.

So sitting here remembering is bringing back lots of memories and I send you my sincere condolences. I also thank you deeply for letting me know, especially at such a time.
Warm thoughts, tears and hugs.
