Donovan Lee Black Sr.

Donovan Lee Black, Sr., 89, passed peacefully at his home in Rolling Hills, CA, surrounded by loved ones. Son of Harry and Ruth Black from Zanesville and Chillicothe, Ohio. Donovan graduated Miami of Ohio University in 1955, with a BS in Naval Science and was immediately commissioned into the US Navy as a Supply Officer. Life in the Navy spurred a passion for adventure and travel which brought him to California in 1958. Donovan settled in Manhattan Beach where he and Bobbi Black married and raised their two beloved children, Donovan "Lee" Black, Jr. and Debbi Black Lippert. In 1979, he married Nancy Hutchison and moved to Palos Verdes to join Nancy and her children Wendy, Heidi and Kevin. After 25 successful years with Xerox, Donovan accepted an early retirement at age 53.

Donovan continued to live a life of fun and adventure, traveling all over the world, riding his Harleys, and flying his planes. He loved singing in his church choirs, coaching, volunteering, and playing tennis and golf. His greatest joys were watching his grandchildren grow and achieve their goals, and loving all of his family and friends. He was the best Pappy to his five grandchildren: Brittney, Veronica, Felicity, Sophia and Zachary.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 25, 2023, 1:00-3:00
