Dora Lucille Ackenbom

Dora Lucille Ackenbom, 92, of Palmyra, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009.

She was born September 1, 1916, in Texas, to the late George W. and Lennie M. Stapleton. Her husband, Hugh "Ack" Ackenbom, also precedes her in death.

Mrs. Ackenbom worked as a dispatcher for the Winchester Volunteer Rescue Squad along side her husband for more than 25 years.

She is survived by her two children, Charles "Chuck" Ackenbom and his wife, Alina, of Palmyra, and Lenora Pearl Mahan of Chesterfield, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2009, at Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, Virginia.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at the funeral home, with the Reverend John Chandler officiating. Inter- ment will follow in the family cemetery at Camp Friendship in Palmyra, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Fluvanna County Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
