It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dora Faye Crute, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, who departed this world on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, at the age of 88. Faye resided in Oxford, NC, a place she called home and cherished deeply.
Faye was born on Sunday, December 20, 1936 to the late Frank Thomas and Hettie Talley Pittard. A woman of dedication and warmth, she was a high school graduate with a specialization in Business Management, a field she embraced with passion. Her life was a testament to her strong work ethic and caring nature as she nurtured her family and contributed to her community through various roles. From her time as a diligent homemaker raising five children, to working with Russell Stover, Lenox China, and tending to the land as a tobacco farmer, Faye's life was rich with purpose and love.
Faye was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Morton "Bo" Crute, her sisters Eleanor Crute and Rebecca Brewer, her brother Bobby Godsey, her aunt Jettie Webb, and her uncle Harold Talley. Her legacy, carried on by those she leaves behind, speaks volumes of her impact and the memories she created.
She is survived by a large and loving family, including her cherished sons: Mike Crute (Cynthia) of Columbus, GA, Danny Crute (Patricia) of Oxford, NC, Tim Crute (Carol) of Oxford, NC, Jerry Crute (Rhonda) of Southport, NC, and her devoted daughter, Patsy Crute of Rock Hill, SC. Also carrying her memory forward are her 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and her dear sister, Tommie Lumpkin. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends were touched by Dora's kindness and spirit.
A woman of deep faith, Faye was an active member of the Amis Chapel Baptist Church, where her presence and contributions were deeply felt until her later years. She loved to shop and travel, frequently visiting Atlantic City, traveling for the Patchwork House, and exploring the East Coast as she sold and collected quilts. Her enthusiasm for auctions was another testament to her zest for life and ability to find joy in the little things.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her dedicated caregivers, Karen Wilbourne, Jessica Locklear, Teresa Riggan, Patricia Taylor, Ginger Pittard, and Kaci Pittard, for their compassionate care and support.
A Funeral Service for Faye will be held at 3pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Amis Chapel Baptist Church. The family will gather for Visitation 1 hour prior to her funeral service. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Amis Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance.
Arrangements have been made through Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, and the family wishes to thank them sincerely for their guidance and support during this time.
Dora's life was a testament to love, faith, and perseverance. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her unwavering support to those she loved, and the beautiful quilts and antiques she collected, much like the rich tapestry of her life.
