Dora Helen Mejia Pugh, age 77, a native of Golden Meadow, a proud member of the United Houma Nation, and a resident of Paradis, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, surrounded by her loving family.
Dora's life was a testament to love, kindness, and community spirit. Despite being deaf, she embraced life with unwavering determination and infectious positivity. Dora was known for her warm heart, generous nature, and ability to connect with others in profound ways. Her home was always a welcoming haven, where everyone felt cherished and valued.
She was deeply passionate about being a member of the hearing-impaired community. She spent much of her time teaching anyone who was willing to learn sign language. Her enthusiasm and dedication left a lasting impact on her community and inspired those around her.
Dora was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She had a unique ability to offer compassion and understanding. Her kindness was a source of strength for all who knew her.
Dora is survived by her companion, Gary Heurtin; son, Christopher David Pugh and wife, Tiffany; daughter, Elisa Dora Pugh Tisdale; brothers, Raleigh Dardar, David Mejia and wife, Rita, and Kenneth Mejia and wife, Lisa; sister, Carrilene Sutherland; and grandchildren, Angel LaBorde, Justin Lodriguss, Patience Pugh, Kyla Tisdale, Aidian Helmer, Hailey Tisdale, Adelyn Bersuder, and Aiden Whitfield.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Astusio G. and Veronica Billiot Mejia; brothers, Larry Dardar and Richard Mejia; and sisters, Marylou Townsley and Debra Falgout.
A memorial service to celebrate Dora's life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano, beginning at 9:00.
Dora's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire us all. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in our memories and the lessons she taught us.
Rest in peace, dear Dora. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever remain in our hearts.
