Dora Vernell Thrash

Dora Vernell Wiggins Thrash, age 102, of Milton, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on September 10, 2025. Born in Allentown, Florida, she was the cherished daughter of Joseph Turpin Wiggins and Claudia Belle Cody Wiggins.

Dora Vernell was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Rassie Thrash. Through his military career, she had the opportunity to travel abroad, live in several interesting countries, and raise their children in diverse settings. Vernell was a devoted mother to three daughters: Dora Jean Wendt, Linda Lanell Shah (Shah), and Sylvia Marie Phillips.

Vernell found immense joy in working in her garden, growing peas, and preparing meals for her family. She was known for her love of people, birthday celebrations, and her deep faith in the Lord. As a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Milton, Florida, she touched the lives of many with her kindness and devotion.

Dora Vernel Wiggins Thrash's legacy of laughter, strength and unwavering love will be profoundly missed by her children, family, many friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.

Her family legacy continues with her three daughters; two grandsons, David Dunlap (Vicki) and Christopher Phillips; and one great-granddaughter, Katharine Dunlap Cole (Chase).

A funeral service will be held at Trahan Family Funeral Home of Milton on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with public viewing beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
