Doreen Andrea Legner, 68, of La Porte, IN, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her home.
Doreen was born on February 21, 1956, in La Porte, IN, to Rudolph and Patricia "Pat" (Ryan) Legner.
Surviving Doreen are her 4 children, Jessica (Christopher) Harding of La Porte, Cy Konieczny of La Porte, Darrell Becker of La Porte, and Brett Becker of Starke Co.; 2 grandchildren, Tristin Nathaniell Johnson of Canton, MI and Krysta Johnson of Niles, MI; daughter-in-law, April Johnson of La Porte; 6 nieces, Stephanie Legner of Wilmington, NC, Vanessa Legner of Indianapolis, Monica Legner of Bloomington, Ivy Legner of Indianapolis, Chelsie Legner of Clive, IA and Alexis (Ronald) Roberts of Grandville, MI; 2 nephews, Nick (McKenzie) Hagenow of Grandville, MI and Ryan Legner of Clive, IA; sister, Carol (Jim) Hagenow of Wayland, MI; brother, Garry Legner of La Porte; many great nieces and nephews; 2 cats, Cubby and Cleopatra; as well as granddogs, Leo and Lilly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Nathan Konieczny; and brother, David Legner.
A LPHS class of 1974 graduate, Doreen worked many years in various manufacturing positions at American Home Foods, Aero Metals and House of Fara. Doreen loved watching classic movies, The Young and the Restless, Guiding Light, the Chicago Bears, and various game shows, with Price is Right being her favorite as she shared in the joy of winning that the contestants experienced. She also enjoyed flowers, the beach, wine, cooking, being outdoors, and singing and listening to music, particularly the Beatles.
Doreen loved holidays and celebrating all birthdays. She shared her love for others thru her various act of kindness, including babysitting and cooking for friends and family.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend that enjoyed her independence. Doreen celebrated her freedom to choose. The symbol of "peace" represented Doreen's outlook in life.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
A time of visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
