Doris H. Behning

Doris "Dorrie" Helen Behning, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, in her home in Prospect. She was born in New Kensington to Jacob J. Sopko Jr., and Stella (Lascek) Sopko. She attended Ken (Valley) High and Carnegie (Mellon) Tech. Doris lived most of her life in Lower Burrell and loved traveling, boating, swimming, gardening, reading, football and working crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed having adventures with her six children. She was best known for her exceptional sewing ability. Doris loved to sew and received a Singer sewing machine as a high school graduation present from her Aunt Anne and used it up until this past year. She loved making clothes for herself, her children and grandchildren. She sewed many prom gowns and bride and bridesmaid dresses. Doris was also well known for her handmade Raggedy Ann dolls and beautifully detailed Barbie clothes, both of which had a worldwide reach. If you knew Doris, she probably hemmed a pair of pants or altered a piece of clothing for you. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Cliff A. Behning Jr. She is survived by her children, Michelle Storer, of Juneau, Alaska, Laurie (James) McAuley, of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher (Lynn) Behning, of Cranberry, Diana (Jeffrey) Ellis, of Prospect and Richard (Mary Jane) Behning, of Apollo. Her surviving grandchildren are Kelly, Jenna and Evan McAuley, Marissa (Ryan Dalrymple) Behning and Ryan Behning, Benjamin and Elizabeth Ellis; and a recently born great-grandson, Chase Ryan Dalrymple.
