Doris Boland Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on May 20, 2010.
BOLAND, Doris Kipp, passed from this life on May 16, 2010. Her eight children, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are celebrating her life and grieving her death. Doris abandoned a fashion modeling and operatic career and chose the life of loving wife, homemaker and mother of many. During her 85 years, Doris blessed her family and countless friends with her selfless caregiving, her warm hospitality and her perseverance through adversity. In thanksgiving for her life, a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 11300 West Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, Va. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you remember Doris with a donation to any organization that works to promote the welfare of children.

We were fortunate to have lived in a special era and a wonderful small town where our children grew up as friends and are still friends today. Doris taught strong values to her children as I hope I did also.
Here was a perfect woman who was well loved and will be remembered always, on earth and in heaven. Lovingly, Lucy Baker-Dickey of Windover fame in Vienna, Virginia, the "party house."

This is such a sad time for all of you and I'm so sorry that one of my favorite Moms has passed onto her next phase. She was a wonderful example of patience and acceptance and genuinely cared for the many friends that entered the Niblick Street house. I will always remember the comfort I felt in that house with all the kids running in and out and Mrs. B always so "unruffled". She had an impact on my life and I know on so many others.

My heart is with you ALL as you go through this time of loss. I know your Mom is in the loving hands of God now.

Love,

Patti "Dickey" Paterson

Dearest Mrs. 'B',

How lucky I am to have been your back-door neighbor in good ole' Vienna. It was there that I formed my fondest memories that remain so dear to my heart. It was there where I found my best friend, your daughter, Lulu.

I remember vividly sitting around your family room sharing with you stories of our 'adventures' (or most of them:)with our many friends throughout our high school years. You seemed to love being a part of all that and I, in turn, so loved that about you.

And thank you for so bravely chaperoning all of us at Lewes Beach. We may have given you more than you bargained for, but as always, you still seemed to enjoy us.

I could go on and on. You were like my second Mom and I'll never forget you.

Mrs. B, Thanks For The Memories!

Love,
Pat Burns

It was my fortune to have met Doris nine years ago. She has enriched my life and I'm already missing her. People come and go throughout our lives but there are just a few special ones that make indelible marks on our hearts. Beautiful Doris was one such person.
