NAUGATUCK- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Doris Marie (Woody) Bowes, age 81, of Naugatuck, shares the news of her peaceful passing on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Alfred Bowes.

Doris was born on September 18, 1944, in Ingram Branch, West Virginia, the beloved daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Mae (Helen) Woody. Her life was marked by her nurturing spirit and an unwavering dedication to her family. In her younger years, Doris moved to the Bronx, New York, where she met the love of her life, Alfred Bowes. They married on September 28, 1965, and together, they cultivated a home filled with love for their three daughters. In 1976, Doris and her family relocated to Connecticut. Doris was a talented homemaker known for her artistic flair. With an eye for fashion and a passion for crafts, she thrived in helping her family with various art projects. Her culinary skills uniquely shone through her homemade apple pies and her famous homemade BBQ sauce, which became a family favorite. Doris was a feisty soul but also immensely loving. Her greatest joy came from spending quality time with her family, and her legacy will always be remembered with much warmth which she brought into their lives.

Left to honor and cherish her memory and legacy, besides her loving husband of 60 years Alfred, are her children; Hope M. Wall and her fiancé Chuck Sumpter of Naugatuck, Toni Bowes- Jennings and her husband Henry of Naugatuck and Charnell Brooks and her husband Les of Waterbury, her grandchildren; Morgan, Charles “CJ”, Nashua, Jordan “Peter”, Liam and Denelle and her great- granddaughter; Aniya. She also leaves behind her siblings; Bobbie Woody, Betty Stowe, Joanne Carthon, Donnell Woody, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
