Doris Mae Breeden, 94, a resident of Chillicothe, MO, died Friday, December 26, 2025, at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, MO.
She was born March 11, 1931, the daughter of John Raymond (Johnnie) and Opal Grace (Hutchison) Zullig in a family home near Springhill, MO in Sampsel Township, Livingston County.
On Feb. 19, 1950, she married Maurice Breeden, in Chillicothe. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2003.
Mrs. Breeden lived all her life in the Livingston County area. She attended Springhill rural grade school and was a 1949 graduate of Chillicothe High School. Following graduation, she worked at Citizens National Bank until she started raising her family. She and her husband were grain and livestock farmers in the Chillicothe, Lock Springs, and Chula communities. In addition to assisting with farming, Doris always had a large garden and kept an immaculate lawn and flower gardens.
She was a member and Sunday School Teacher of the former Union Baptist Church in rural Chillicothe, a Rich Hill Junior Workers 4-H Leader, served on the Livingston County Agricultural Bi-Centennial Planning Committee in 1976, and served as a Rich Hill Township Supervisory Election Judge. She also served on the Livingston County Extension Council and was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Springhill Chapter. She and her family were selected as the Livingston County Farm Family in 1967. She also enjoyed singing in a quartet for various events.
Survivors include a son, Gary Breeden of Chillicothe; two daughters, Sherry Savage and her husband, Dennis of Chillicothe, and Marlene Koechner and her husband, Everett of Blue Springs, MO. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ben Savage, Wheeling, MO, Daniel (DeAnna) Savage, Chillicothe, Stacy (Kyle) McBroom, Chillicothe, Doug (Polly) Koechner, Liberty, MO, and Bonnie (Taylor) McCoskey, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Doris also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Clayton Savage, Parker Savage, Maddie Savage, Jack Savage, Hallie Maberry, Krosbie Ficke, Reagan Koechner, Teigen Koechner, Jace McCoskey, Rhys McCoskey, Marlowe McCoskey, and Macklin McCoskey.
In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Norma (in infancy), Charles Rae (Chick) and John Madison Zullig, and one great granddaughter, Myra Savage.
Funeral services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 2 p.m. A family visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO, on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, MO, on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 9 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Camp Rainbow for Exceptional Children or Livingston County 4-H Foundation and may be left at the funeral home, or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.
