Doris Brewton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beinhauer-Connell Funeral Services on Mar. 10, 2026.
Doris Louise Seader Brewton died peacefully at age 96 on March 8, 2026, from natural causes. She was the daughter of Louise Salome Bene Seader and James Adams Seader.

Doris graduated from Cheltenham High School in Philadelphia. She married Robert Godshall Brewton in 1950. After working to put him through college, they started their family and Doris became a homemaker and mother extraordinaire. Robert passed away at age 58 and Doris went on to live a very full and fulfilling life on her own- and on her own terms.

She returned to work part time, turning down full-time work repeatedly to keep her Tuesday and Thursday's golf schedule. She was a dedicated volunteer at Prime Time for many years, along with other volunteer activities at Christ Methodist Church where she was a member for 69 years.

Doris' real passion was golf, and she was very active in the Western Pennsylvania Women's Golf Association. She played until she was 90, only giving up the game reluctantly as she couldn't play as well as she wanted to.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother James Harry Seader (May) and sister Marion Salome Ramsey (John), and by her beloved son David Robert Brewton, daughter-in-law Jo Ellen Humphries Brewton and husband of Grandson Joel, Kenneth Riling. Surviving Doris are her son, Stephen Michael Brewton and his wife Judith, and daughter, Beverly Louise Brewton James and her husband Richard, and daughter-in-law Barbara Buckingham Brewton. Doris was a loving and present "Nan" to John Brewton (Fabiola), son of Stephen and Jo Ellen. And to Peter Brewton (Jennifer), Anna Jackson (Ryan), Joel Brewton, and Tom Brewton, children of David and Barbara Brewton, and Charles, stepson of Steve and son of Judith. She was further blessed with great-grandchildren, Ellie, James, Tinsley, Izzie and Zeke and Gabriela Jo Ellen. Additional survivors include children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Richard James- the stepfamily to Beverly.

Doris lived a long life very well, walking over a mile a day up to 8 months before she died. She had friends of all ages and was an inspiration to many. She would tell anyone who would listen, "Never say you're getting old- say you're getting older!" A service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park on April 9 at 11am.

Bob and I were blessed to be Doris´s neighbors for the past eight years. Always a bright light in any neighborhood gathering, Doris was also an inspiration. She stayed active in book club, exercise group, garage sale volunteer and charity walks. And her sense of humor always surprised me at the most unexpected moments. Sorely missed. Forever remembered.
