Doris Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home - Columbia on Jan. 5, 2026.
Doris Eleanor Hawkins-Brown was born May 31, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Luther A. Hawkins and Lottie May Johnson. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the age 76, God in His infinite wisdom call Doris home for eternal rest from her journey here on earth.

Doris or "Dee" as she was affectionately called by family and friends, received her education in the public schools of Richland County where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She was employed for more than twenty-eight years as a teacher in Richland School District One and with MUSC of Charleston as a nursing assistant for five years.

Doris was married to the love of her life, Clarence F. Brown with whom she spent more than 58 years. Together they built a beautiful family who showed unconditional love to each other. Doris loved her children dearly and showed them love and support throughout their lives.

Doris loved the Lord and share her relationship with God to all those around her. Though she is no longer physically with us, she has left a legacy of love to her family and to all those whose lives she so lovingly touched.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jeff Belton; and siblings, Luther Hawkins, Jr., Emma, Judy, and Sylvia.

Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Doris are her loving husband, Clarence F. Brown; loving children, Angelo, Anton and Theresa; grandchildren, Bettina, Natalie, Tierra, Jayla, Tellisa and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Ashton, Madison, Maddox, and McKinzie; her loving siblings, Calvin (Diane) Hawkins, Gloria Hawkins, Lorraine Hawkins and Merle McFadden; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
