Barbara Tompkins Brown, 98
Barbara "Bobbi" Tompkins McCall Brown lived her life with God first always. A devoted child of God and a faithful servant of the Lord, Bobbi's faith was not merely a part of her life; it was the foundation of it. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Moore Haven, she lived out her personal relationship with Jesus Christ daily, not only through worship and service within the walls of her beloved church, but by being a living example of Christian love, strength, generosity, and grace everywhere she went. Her faith guided her decisions, shaped her family, and sustained her through every season of life. Her family rests in the unshakable assurance that she has been welcomed home by her Savior and now rejoices in heaven, reunited with loved ones who went before her and preparing a joyful welcome for those yet to come.
Bobbi was born on September 4, 1927, in Oneco, Florida to Dewey and Daisy Tompkins. The oldest of five siblings, she learned early the values of responsibility, leadership, and faith. She graduated from Manatee County High School in 1944 and went on to build a life rooted in service, devotion, and tireless love. She passed away on February 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that will continue for generations.
Bobbi married Wiley Eli McCall, Jr. and together they brought five children into this world: Teddy, Mike, Kandi, Pat, and Sean. She raised her children with steady hands, a strong heart, and unwavering faith-molding them into the people God intended them to be. They felt her deep love, respected her firm discipline, and always knew that nothing and no one could ever come between them and their Momma. Bobbi also claimed Oren Bitting as her own and fostered an extraordinary number of children over the years. She opened her home-and her heart-to those who needed her, ensuring they were loved, fed, disciplined, tutored, and sent back into the world stronger than when they arrived. As her family grew, so did her legacy, eventually encompassing 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
On April 11, 1993 Bobbi began one of the most joyful chapters of her life when she married Randall Brown. With that union, she instantly welcomed two more children, Jimmy, and Ginger, into her ever growing family. Bobbi and Randall shared 13 deeply happy years together until his passing in 2006. Years that were filled with love, laughter, and shared faith.
Bobbi lived through and witnessed nearly a century of American history. Born before the Great Depression, she experienced the hardships and lessons it brought, lived through World War II, watched men walk on the moon, and saw technology transform the world from radios and rotary phones to computers and smartphones. Through decades of change, one thing never wavered: her faith in God, her belief in family, and her conviction that a life lived in service mattered most.
A resident of
Moore Haven, Florida, for more than 60 years, Bobbi also called Bradenton, Lake City, Oneco, Canal Point, and Hooker's Point home. In every place she lived whether as a daughter, wife, momma, or nana she filled each house with love and turned it into a home. She lived life with remarkable energy, curiosity, and joy. Bobbi loved to camp and travel, especially by train, and cherished those trips shared with her grandchildren making memories, telling stories, and turning every journey into an adventure.
Bobbi served Glades County for more than 20 years as a Judicial Assistant to the Honorable Judge A.E. Wells and Honorable Judge Kirby Sullivan. Among her honors for service was a notable lifetime membership to the Florida Sheriffs Association. Bobbi exceeded her Mothers' accomplishments by receiving a lifetime membership to the Glades County Woman's Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and tending to her chickens. She also found joy in hosting Keenagers events in her home. She was a faithful member of the Lake Placid Art League. There, she discovered a gift for painting and especially loved capturing Florida's natural beauty and wildlife on canvas.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Daisy Tompkins; husband, Randall Brown; siblings, Sara Swanger-Pittman, Wilma Wilson, Giles Tompkins; son, Wiley Theodore McCall; bonus son, Oren Bitting; granddaughter, Jennifer McCall; and great grandson, Michael McCall.
