Doris Helen (Austin) Bushman entered eternal rest on January 3, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born in the family home in Minerva, New York, on April 13, 1931; she was the youngest girl of 8 siblings born to Howard and Grace (Rounds) Austin.
Doris was raised in a small town with a family who worked hard and loved dearly. She often shared memories of her childhood. In the summer, she and her siblings took turns swinging from the tall tree swing, playing ball, and swimming in the creek. In the winter, they liked to have snowball fights, build snowmen and snow forts, and ice skate. She graduated from Terracium High School in Schenectady, NY, in 1947 at age 16. She met her husband, Payson "Dub" Bushman, in Minerva shortly after graduation. She was still 16 when he proposed. They were married on September 10, 1948, for 64 years until Dub's passing in 2012. They had two loving sons, Roy and Jim, early in their marriage, only a year and a half apart, and then Janet surprised them 20 years later. Together their family of four at the time worked hard running a dairy farm until they lost it to a fire. Their journey continued to a home in Crown Point, NY, and then to Saranac Lake, NY, where Janet was born. They moved to Texas in January 1976, where she worked in the school cafeteria until her retirement in 1994. Her favorite hobbies were baking and reading the bible. She loved baking rolls, cinnamon rolls, pies, and cookies. She attended church and read her bible daily. She loved going to water aerobics and lunch with her best friend, Judy Lawson. She met her boyfriend, Richard Matthews, in 2019 at Timberhill Villa. He was by her side until she went to be with our Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Grace Austin; her beloved husband, Payson; 6 of her siblings; her two beloved sons, Roy W. Bushman and James T Bushman and his wife, Cynthia.
She is survived by her sibling Frances (Austin) Hutchins; daughter Janet Crawford (Duncan); boyfriend Richard Matthews; daughter-in-law Louise Bushman; 5 grandchildren Sara Noland (David), Tammy Bushman (Donnie), Patricia Ryan (Josh), Tracy Bushman (Cory) and Houston Crawford (Haley); 11 Great-Grandchildren Heather Riley, Hannah Foster (Chris), Michael Murdoch (Amber), Victoria Sanders (Marquis), Christian Bushman, Matthew Ryan (Nicole), Kyla Ryan, Jon Bushman, James Bushman, Jameson Bushman, Jasmine Bushman; 8 Great-Great Grandchildren Aria Heath, Brooke Riley, Madi Foster, Evelyn Foster, Azai Gonzalez, Annabelle Gonzalez, Athena Sanders, Astraea Sanders, and numerous nieces and nephews.
