Doris Rogers Chambliss, 100, went to be with the Lord on November 5, 2025. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late John and Jennie Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Lyons Chambliss. She was the last surviving of her siblings, John T. Rogers, F. Kenneth Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Eleanor R. Laun and Marion R. VanHise. She loved her brothers and sisters and spoke often of them.
Doris was employed by the Jefferson County School System for 30+ years. She was the secretary to several assistant superintendents over the years. She loved her job and was very dedicated to all of the educators she worked with. She retired in the year 1992.
In 2008, Doris moved to Suffolk, VA to be close to family. She resided in the Commons of Centerbrooke until 2019, when she moved into her daughter's home due to COVID 19. She was an active member of Christ First Church in Suffolk.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Diane Chambliss Boswell; granddaughter, Jennifer Boswell Rockey; great grandson, William Henry Rockey; great granddaughter, Abigail Lee Rockey. She is also survived by her sister in law, Ann Rogers of Florida; brother in law, David Dunn; brother and sister in law, Robert and Janet Chambliss; and sister in law, Betty Chambliss all from Kentucky. Doris is survived by many nieces and nephews from across the country.
The family came together with members from out of state and many family friends to celebrate her 100th birthday on September 21, 2025. This celebration was very grand and honored her, as she so deserved. The family will be holding a private celebration of life for the family and a few close friends in the future. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society, 3118 Kings Hwy, Suffolk, VA 23434 as Doris loved our dogs, Leo and Otis. She always took care of them and called them hers. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is assisting the family.
