On Sunday morning July 2, 2023, Ms. Doris Hazel Chorley Habbick was drawn into the warm and loving arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, to receive her eternal reward in paradise. Doris Hazel Chorley was born in rural upstate New York on February 23, 1939, to Guy and Clara Chorley, who raised her on a sawmill tree farm as their third child of four. She graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education, where she met her first husband, Robert Habbick through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. The Habbick's raised three sons, Robert Scott, Cameron Guy, and David Marshall. Doris occasionally subbed or taught mathematics at various schools, but her primary career pursuit was as a real estate broker. Later in life, Doris achieved a level of fame as the face of Pilot in Great Falls. She was known also for her knitting skills and the volume of hats, scarves, blankets, etc. she would give away as gifts each year. Doris loved horses and, over her life, bred and raised numerous Arabian horses. After she could no longer ride, she loved to simply take care of horses.
Throughout her life, despite life's ups and downs, she never wavered in her faith and trust in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She enjoyed worshiping Him through songs and learning about Him through Bible study and attending sermons and teachings from God's word. Her faith in Jesus Christ was shared by her parents and each of her Chorley siblings, Franklin (Irene), Sarah (Bud), and James (Elaine). James lives in Liverpool, NY, and Franklin and Sarah preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Robert Habbick, and Bruce Merrill, and her eldest son, Robert "Scott" Habbick. She is survived by two sons, Cameron Guy Habbick (Rebecca) of Isle of Palms, SC, and David Marshall Habbick (Susan) of Lynchburg, VA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Allyssa, Mami, Masato, and Yuki (Scott); Daniel (Cameron); and David, Jr., Jonathan, and Jessica (David); and three great grandchildren. Doris will be missed by her family and friends. She will be laid to rest at the Chorley burial plot in upstate New York. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Great Falls, SC, where her memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday July 17, 2023.
