Doris Edge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory - Washington St. on Dec. 5, 2024.
With hearts full of gratitude for a life well-lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Mother Doris Yvonne Edge, who transitioned peacefully into the arms of her Savior on December 3, 2024, at the age of 92.
Born in Peoria, Illinois to the late Reverend O.E. Dinwiddie and mother Dr. Saint Carrie Lee Dinwiddie. Doris was raised in a family grounded in faith, hard work, and love. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Oscar Elbert Jr, Curtis and Eugene Dinwiddie. At the tender age of 16, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior, beginning a lifetime of service, devotion, and unshakable faith.
Mother Edge was united in holy matrimony to George L. Edge for 58 blessed years until his passing in 2012. Together, they raised a loving family and built a legacy rooted in faith, education, and community service. She is survived by her five devoted children: Nathaniel, Yvonne, Ronald, Yvette, and Yolawnda, who carry forward her teachings and values. Her legacy also includes seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom she cherished dearly.
Mother Edge lived a life of extraordinary impact. She was an English teacher who shaped young minds with her passion for language and learning. As a secretary and program organizer, she worked diligently to support numerous causes and initiatives. She also served as an assistant to her mother Dr. Saint Carrie Lee Dinwiddie, librarian for Irvin Miller, embracing her roles with humility and grace.
Mother Edge was a mother to multiple churches, offering guidance, wisdom, and love to generations of believers. She organized impactful programs and initiatives to uplift her community. Doris was also a proud member of the NAACP, advocating for equality and justice with unwavering commitment.
Her dedication was recognized with an honorary degree, a testament to her extraordinary contributions to education, community service, and ministry.
Mother Edge lived a life anchored in her love for God and His people. Her favorite scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." – Matthew 25:23 which was a guiding light in her journey. She was a beacon of hope, wisdom, and encouragement, always pointing others to Christ.
A celebration of Mother Doris Yvonne Edge's remarkable life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Faith Hope & Love Church of God in Christ in Columbus with Bishop Mike Harris officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation Friday, December 13, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and also from 10 a.m. till time of service Saturday at the church.
Interment will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Hope & Love Church of God in Christ.
Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the Edge family at barkesweaverglick.com.
Although we mourn her physical absence, we rejoice in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, parents, and brothers in eternal glory.
Rest well, Mother Edge, until we meet again. Your legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you.
"Well done, good and faithful servant Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." – Matthew 25:23
