Kim Cornelius Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory - Washington St. on Jan. 30, 2026.
Kim Damon Cornelius quietly passed from this life on Friday, January 30, 2026. Kim was born February 28, 1938, in Richmond, Indiana, to deaf parents Damon and Mary Landis Cornelius. As a CODA, he spoke sign language fluently, and was always ready to assist the hearing impaired both, professionally and personally.

Kim was a veteran who served the United States in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and was honorably discharged for his honest and faithful service in August 1962.

For the past 25 years, Kim was proud to call Nashville Indiana his home; he served as a Board Member and Treasurer for The Historic Brown County Art Gallery, and enjoyed educating guests about wine at Oliver Winery. During his lifetime, he was a voracious reader, golf enthusiast, music lover, a mentor and a master storyteller.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathi Cornelius of Florida; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; family Bill and Sharon Cornelius-Arnold, Ron and Lori Cornelius-Borre; Mark Corneliius and David Cornelius, and a multigenerational family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harold Cornelius and Earl Cornelius; and son, Kirk Cornelius.

In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place and no other services are planned at this time. Inurnment will take place at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the Spring, and a Celebration of Life will follow.

In memoriam to Kim, donations and memorial contributions may be made to CODA-International (Children of Deaf Adults) at: https://www.coda-international.org/donate
