Doris Gibson Obituary

DORIS JEAN GIBSON
March 23, 1928 ˜ October 3, 2023

Doris J. Gibson, 95, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends. Doris was born in Portland, OR, to her parents, Melbourne Allen and Ivy McNeece. She attended Jefferson High School and Oregon State University. She married her high school sweetheart, James S. Gibson, in 1950. The family moved to Alaska in 1957, where they owned and operated an air charter service. They moved to Anchorage in 1963 where Jim was a pilot for Reeve Aleutian Airlines and Doris worked for the Hertz Corporation. Doris was active in her church, and enjoyed traveling and many outdoor activities. At retirement in 1989, they purchased a motorhome where they drove the Alaska highway to Portland, and later built a home at Fairway Village in Vancouver. They were blessed with 20 years of retirement and 60 years of marriage. After Jim passed away, Doris moved to independent living at Touchmark, a retirement community. Doris is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Gibson and Karen Gibson; her grandsons, Brennan Rieger, Collin Rieger, and Matthew Rieger; her sister, Gloria Cooper; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at Mill Plain United Methodist Church, 15804 SE Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA, on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mill Plain United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
