Doris "Dot" Gibson

Doris M. "Dot" Gibson, age 89, the widow of Harold Gibson, entered into the presence of Jesus on October 7, 2025 at her home in Sharon, SC surrounded by her family and other loved ones.
Dot was born August 14, 1936, to Amanda Mae Martin and raised in the homes of her grandfather, John Wesley Martin and her stepfather, Robert C. "RC" Lawson. She attended Union County schools and was a member of Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church.
Surviving her are two daughters, Donna G. Allen of Lockhart and Tammy Allen Moody of Clover; step daughters, Wendy Henderson and husband, Richard of Union, Jennie Gregory of Spartanburg and Lisa Benvenuti and husband Tony of Union, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two grandchildren, Shane Allen and Chad Allen, held a special bond with their grandmother and will sorely miss her presence.
Immediate family predeceasing Dot: two sons, Gene Allen (Norma) and Wayne Allen (Sybil); a sister, Ruby M. Gettys (Sam); two stepbrothers, Laurence Lawson and Robert Earl "Greasy" Lawson (Nancy) and a stepsister, Betty Jean Lawson Stepp (Berry).
Dot started her work career with Lockhart Mill at the age of 18 and continued working there until the mill closed in 1994 (40 years). Not satisfied to retire, Dot received her CNA license after the mill closed and worked in home health care for several more years.
One of the best of the old-time cooks, her specialty was her sour cream coconut cake. The family remembers with grateful hearts her work ethic that kept food on the table when times were lean. All who knew Dot would call her selfless, kind and sweet spirited – always putting the well being of others before self. She loved Jesus and shared openly how her life was changed when she came to know Him. Her desire was that others might know the security and care He had given her.
A private memorial gathering is planned for the family at a later date. The families are at their respective homes. Memorials can be made to Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church, 7386 Lockhart Hwy, Sharon, SC 29742.
