Doris Jean McCann Godfrey, age 91, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at FirstHealth Hospice House.

She was born in Guilford County on November 18, 1933, to the late Ernest McCann and Tiny Adaline Hamilton McCann. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Willie Paul Godfrey; her children Timothy James Godfrey, Regina Godfrey Daniels, Terry Perdue, Marie Sheffield, Kay Mitchell, Ronnie Godfrey, and Willie Godfrey; Brothers Stan McCann, and Raymond McCann; sisters Lucille Wood, Lillian Perdue, and Mildred Little.

Doris was the heart of the home and the backbone of the family farm. Whether she was helping in the field, preparing meals for a crowd, or offering words of wisdom, she did it all with grace and quiet strength. Her hands were never idle, and her heart was always full of love for her family.

She is survived by her children Diane Marion, Darlene Turner (Ronnie), Paula Rinehart (Steve), Debra Walker (Ron), Linda Patterson (Halford), Joe Godfrey (Lois), Jack Godfrey (Debra) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm at New Life Fellowship Church (4714 Olivia Rd, Sanford NC). The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Dr Gail Dickens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
