Doris Wilkerson Hatcher Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doris Wilkerson Hatcher, a beloved Wife,
Mother and Grandmother. Doris passed away on March 19th at the age of 92.
Born in Farmville, VA on May 7th, 1933, Doris was the daughter of the late Charles Russell
Wilkerson and Winnie Keeton Wilkerson. They shared a house with other family members which was
called Dover Plantation and she always talked about the fond memories of growing up there. Doris
graduated in 1951 from Farmville High School and married the love of her life, Houston G. Hatcher on
November 26th, 1952 and shared 73 years together.
Doris was known in the community for working in the Banking industry for 41 years. She was
her childeren and grandchildren's greatest supporter in all of their activities. In her younger years,
Doris was an avid member of the community bowling league. She also enjoyed quiet walks on the
road where she lived. She was a fan of The Young & Restless for many years. Doris was a Charter
member of Heritage Baptist Church. Doris became a resident of Hickory Hill Retirement Community
in October 2024 where she was surrounded with love and care until her final days.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Teresa Adams (Jimmy) of Farmville; Grandsons, Jason
Hatcher (Wendy) of Jacksonville, FL and Stephen Hatcher (Shilah) of Chesapeake, VA. She was the
Great Grandmother to Tyler Hatcher (Lauren), Reaghan Gombert (Jeremy), Kirkland Hatcher,
Emerson Grace Hatcher, and Chase Cummings. She was the Great-Great Grandmother to Maddux and
Amelia Hatcher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Garland Hatcher, her siblings,
Charles, Walter, Ray and Robert Wilkerson.
Doris will be truly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Hickory Hill
Retirement Community staff and James River Hospice for all the love and care given to her. Family
will receive friends at Puckett Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 25th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Private
Graveside at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice, VA.
