Doris V. Hitchcock Chilson Wood Hyer, 84, of Freeville, NY, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2025, while surrounded by her loving family. Born December 7, 1940, in Sayre, PA, to the late George D. and Ellen M. (Vinson) Hitchcock, Doris spent her early years in Camptown, PA.
Doris’s career took many paths. She served as a housekeeper for families in Cayuga Heights, worked at Wyllie Dry Cleaning in Ithaca, and could be seen in the deli or behind the cash register in many local grocery stores, including Super Duper, Grand Union, and most recently, P&C Fresh. In her free time, Doris enjoyed crocheting hand towels and was known for her homemade banana muffins, which she lovingly gave to everyone she knew.
Doris is survived by her children: John B. Chilson, Jalenia A. Mead (Jeffrey), Bonnie J. Warner (Randy), Raymond W. Chilson (Lisa) and Roderick C. Chilson (Dawn). She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and extended family members.
