Doris Kessler Obituary

Doris, age 104, died peacefully on May 23, 2025 at The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville, South Carolina. She was born November 24, 1920 to Lee and Alta Fairley near Chautauqua, Kansas. She graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kansas with the class of 1938. Business school followed in Wichita, Kansas where she met and later married her loving husband, Don, on September 1, 1940. She worked as a stenographer in Wichita from 1939 to 1944 while Don served in the military. They were happily married 68 years.

Doris was a devoted military wife, and with their son, Michael, enjoyed the many military assignments during the 29 years of Don's Air Force career. She enjoyed golf, fitness programs, sewing, and reading along with many volunteer projects. Above all, she loved being a wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May, 2 2008, and by her parents, one brother and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Michael Kessler, M.D. of Greenville, South Carolina, and by nieces and nephews in California.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the companions, nursing staff, administrators, and many friends at the Woodlands at Furman for their loving attention to Doris during her time of need. A private burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent's Avenue in Shreveport, La. At her request, there will be no memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice if desired.
