Doris Mae Lewis, 94, passed away on September 1, 2025, in Norwalk, Iowa. A memorial funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Norwalk United Methodist Church. A time of fellowship will immediately follow services at the church. Doris will be interred in Wellman Cemetery.

Doris was born on April 21, 1931, in Garden City, Iowa to Cernal and Selma (Olson) Knutson. She graduated from Story City High School and later went to Waldorf College. Doris met the love of her life, Max Lewis, in Des Moines. Together, they built a life together, raising five children and creating a home full of warmth and joy.

Over the years, Doris worked in various roles as an administrative assistant, including at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. She and Max also owned and operated a general store in Wellman, Iowa.

Doris had a heart for service. She was deeply active in her church, regularly volunteering and attending Bible study, always finding ways to care for others. She cherished every moment spent with her family and was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. Her Kringla recipe was unmatched, and always a family favorite.

Those who knew Doris will remember her as loving, caring, selfless, and always smiling. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Keith (Patrice) Lewis, Robin Seymour, Terri (John Cooney) Kay, and Barbara (Jim) Dougherty; grandchildren: Noelle (Randy Cooke) Lewis, Nick (Hyunsun) Lewis, Jennie (Jesse) August, Kalyn (Mocean) Melvin, Julian (Kaitlin) McKay, Chloe (Jack) Shaw, James Dougherty, Bradley (Sydnie) Dougherty, Thomas (Elaine) Dougherty, and Olivia Dougherty, seven great grandchildren, a daughter in-law, Tracy Lewis; and many other nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Max Lewis; a son, Paul Lewis; and her siblings: Amy, Gladys, Ruben, Cy, Virgil, Jordan, and Ardyce.

Memorials in Doris's name may be directed to Norwalk United Methodist Church.
