Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tutor Funeral Home - Magee on Sep. 25, 2025.
Doris Maxine Martin McCallum passed away on September 24, 2025, at the age of 94 years and one month. She was born in Mize, Mississippi. Doris and L.D. were married on October 25, 1947, and they shared almost 74 years of marriage before his passing.
Doris was a devoted homemaker and, alongside her husband, raised poultry for McCarty Farms and Tyson Farms for 40 years. Together, they were also among the founding couples of Simpson County Academy, working diligently to help shape it into what it is today.
She was a wonderful wife and mother who raised four children. Over the years, her family grew and multiplied, and she leaves behind many survivors from her and L.D.'s marriage. Doris loved her children and their families deeply, though only God loved them more. She was a talented cook, a prayer warrior for many, and a true friend to all.
Doris was an active and faithful member of Goodwater Baptist Church. While in good health, she joyfully served her Lord in many ways. She played the piano for the children's department each Sunday, always beginning with the hymn "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder. " She loved playing in worship services, singing alto in the church choir, and lending her music to glorify God. Doris was known for her radiant smile, her joyful spirit, and her ability to see the good in everyone. She truly embodied the description of a godly woman in Proverbs 31.
Doris was the youngest of six girls and the last surviving sister of the Martin family. Remarkably, the six sisters passed away in the exact order of their birth, from oldest to youngest.
She is survived by her children: Janie Ainsworth (Ronnie), Denise Welch (David), Dennis McCallum (Michele), and Patti McCallum. Her grandchildren include Donny Welch (Stephanie), Owen McCallum (Jess), Seth McCallum, and Ron Ainsworth (Brooke), as well as granddaughters Christy Ainsworth Anders (Dusty) and DeAnna Welch Womack (Steve). Doris was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Marlee Welch, Anna Claire Walker Tullos (Payton), Kynlee Womack, Kaydee Womack Snow (Thad), Grayson Hipp Steed (Kyle), Kyle Walker (Rayelle), Koby Walker, Christian Womack, Ryan Welch (Brooke), Riley Welch, Parker Hipp, and Garrett Hipp (Abby). Her legacy continues through her great-great-grandchildren, Hunter Joseph
Hipp and William Pace Tullos, with another great-great-granddaughter, Baby Girl Tullos, expected in March.
She was preceded in death by her sisters: Myrtle Johnson, Birda Layton, Susie Bryant, Wilma Sullivan, and Ches Hughes, as well as by her parents, Chester and Mae Martin.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Goodwater Baptist Church in
Magee, MS, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The service will be at 12:00 PM at Goodwater Church with Bro. Jason Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Goodwater Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Ron Ainsworth, Donny Welch, Owen McCallum, Seth McCallum, Steve Womack, Dusty Anders, and Gordon Givens. Honorary pallbearers include Garrett Hipp, Parker Hipp, Koby Walker, Kyle Walker, Riley Welch, Ryan Welch, Christian Womack, Thad Snow, Kyle Steed, and Payton Tullos.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to those who helped lead the service: Pastor Jason Webb,
